13th march 2017 / visual diary (1/?)
basically: first day of a sleepover with a close childhood friend, we ate at sushiro and then went over to an açai affair which was at east coast road! read under the cut for a short review.
first we went all the way to thomson plaza to have lunch at sushiro, i’ve been wanting to try it since my friends kept telling me the food was affordable and tastes great. i ordered the bara chirashi don which was arguably one of the most popular items on the menu. i also ordered an additional onsen egg bc it looked so good on the menu………and also bc i was greedy lmao

my friend ordered the mentaiko salmon don instead but unfortunately i didn’t get to take a shot of it.
the chirashi don was really good, the sashimi was really fresh and the portion given was quite generous for the price i paid. (which was 12.80 sgd i believe) the sushi rice was also great, not overcooked or undercooked. but then it was just plain white rice, so if you prefer your food to be more flavourful you’ll have to add soy sauce yourself. my friend was complaining that the rice was too plain, compared to the well-seasoned rice in the donburi bowls they have at tanuki raw, a place she frequented, which also sells the chirashi don and other japanese rice bowls.
can i just talk about how good the onsen egg was though……… like,,,, i don’t know what is it about japanese soft half-cooked eggs but they taste amazing?? perhaps it’s a strange combination to pair an onsen egg with the chirashi don but it tasted good nonetheless.
overall i’d give the bara chirashi don a 7.8/10? it was filling and the sashimi was fresh, pity that the rice was a little too plain for my liking. i’d definitely eat it again though, just for the sashimi alone. the ambience of the eating place though….. not that great, it was kinda crammed and people had to wait in line because of the limited seats and space available. but i mean, unless you’re planning to take someone out on a special occasion, it doesn’t really matter. the food is good so it’s worth it.
so then after lunch we headed over to katong area, and walked around, trying to find interesting places we could have dessert. it was a monday and most cafés are closed then so our choices were a tad bit limited. and my friend was suggesting that we try out the açai bowl at this café that sells predominantly açai desserts, called an açai affair. but of course in case you didn’t know, that shit is expensive lmao so that’s why i was hesitating like………..do i really want to spend a whole 9 bucks on a tiny cup of imported blended berries :/ but then i was like fuck it might as well try it and try not to feel guilty afterwards. so we ordered what i believe is a medium açai bowl? with honey (but where it at though? i couldn’t taste it at all lmaodjfjh) to share and there were…. some toppings (barely) like 4 blueberries a few slices of banana, other fruits diced into tiny cubes, and granola…….. and a sprinkle (a small sprinkle, u could actually count how many there were) of chia seeds……. lmao. i’ll stop being bitter but honestly it wasn’t worth the price at all….. i don’t know why it’s so overhyped.
don’t get me wrong, it tasted really good actually, (to me at least bc my friend wasn’t having any of it, claiming she still doesn’t even know what the berries taste like after eating it) and honestly if it wasn’t so pricey i’d eat it again. but a whole 9 dollars for that amount? no thanks, i can honestly just blend a bunch of other berries at home and pretend it’s the same thing. now before you say i’m mindlessly slandering the açai fruit, i know about all the good health benefits it has, whatever. still not worth the price. i’d rather spend the same amount of money on a huge sized drink or froyo. i don’t know man, maybe i’m petty or maybe i’m just broke, try it for yourself then.
well then afterwards we just walked around some more, and went back home. that’s about it for 130317 and my first vd post x
